Acute otitis media is an infection of the middle ear that is common in young children. It can cause earache, a high temperature, irritability and difficulty sleeping. Many cases improve without antibiotics, but our pharmacist can assess your child and advise on the most suitable treatment.
Available for children aged 1 to 17 years. Our pharmacist will assess the child's symptoms to confirm whether treatment is suitable.

Treatment or advice
Where appropriate, the pharmacist can supply treatment, or advise on self-care or onward referral.
Children's pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (if suitable) can help. Seek urgent advice if your child is very unwell, has a stiff neck, or symptoms get rapidly worse.

The consultation is free on the NHS. Where treatment is supplied, normal NHS prescription charges and exemptions apply.
