Pharmacy First Infected Insect Bite
Most insect bites and stings are harmless and settle within a few days. Occasionally a bite can become infected, usually because bacteria have entered the skin, for example after scratching. Our pharmacist can assess the bite and, where appropriate, supply treatment to help clear the infection.
Available for adults and children aged 1 year and over. Our pharmacist will examine the affected area to confirm whether treatment is suitable.

Treatment or advice
Where appropriate, the pharmacist can supply treatment, or advise on self-care or onward referral.
Avoid scratching the bite, keep the area clean, and use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Seek urgent advice if redness spreads quickly, you feel very unwell, or you have a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.
Signs include spreading redness, swelling and warmth, pus, increasing pain, or feeling unwell. If you are unsure, our pharmacist can take a look and advise you.
