Pharmacy First Sore Throat
A sore throat is very common and is usually caused by a viral infection. Symptoms can include a painful throat, especially when swallowing, a dry scratchy throat, and swollen glands in the neck. Most sore throats improve within a week. Our pharmacist can assess your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Available for adults and children aged 5 years and over. Our pharmacist will assess your symptoms to confirm whether treatment is suitable.

Our pharmacist will ask about your symptoms and history in our private consultation room.
Treatment or advice
Where appropriate, the pharmacist can supply treatment, or advise on self-care or onward referral.
Rest, drink plenty of cool fluids and use over-the-counter pain relief if appropriate. Seek urgent advice if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, or if symptoms get rapidly worse.

The consultation is free on the NHS. Where treatment is supplied, normal NHS prescription charges and exemptions apply.
